The 2012 TechCon will feature the following Symposia:

Lab to Fab Vacuum Thin Film Manufacturing Processes
The Society of Vacuum Coaters (SVC) brings unmatched expertise in thin film processes and large-area manufacturing to the Silicon Valley. Lab to Fab focuses on both the materials and processes needed to bring device prototypes to a large-scale manufacturing environment.
This theme covers prototype development, materials selection, deposition techniques, processing tradeoffs, process control and monitoring, reactor engineering, quality control, and explores the pitfalls of making thin film-based products in a large-scale high volume environment. The SVC emphasizes process technology to take deposition rates well beyond nm/min. Scaling of processes and equipment will follow the lead of the large-scale glass coating and the high rate roll-coating industries which have been quite successful in fabricating and manufacturing cost effective products. Various types of deposition processes will be compared to vacuum thin film processes in terms of rate, uniformity, and contamination issues affecting ultimate yield. Rate limiting steps will be discussed along with yield challenges for scaling to higher production rates.
Specific new developing technology areas that will be emphasized include:
- Nanotechnology
- Touch Panels
- Flexible Electronics
- Solid State Lighting
- Energy Storage and Energy Saving Technologies

New Materials and Processes for Photovoltaics Manufacturing
Following on our success in Chicago 2011 we will drill down into the major issues of thin film photovoltaics and understand how they can compete with the declining cost of wafer-based PV. Many thin film PV devices require changes to bridge the performance gap between hand crafted champion devices and manufacturable large-area devices. This theme will look at new materials and processes to move manufacturing from low quality devices to large-area higher quality devices of commercial importance.

Our emphasis will be on, but not limited to:
- New materials, green processes (e.g. Kesterites, TCOs)
- New production technology for large-area, high-yield manufacturing
- Investigation and understanding of device performance and fabrication limitations
- Other thin film devices including CIGS, CdTe, thin film silicon, organics
- Road mapping and scale-up, including materials and design improvements

JVC-14 / EVC-12 / AMDVG-11/ CRO-SLO-19 JVC-14 / EVC-12 / AMDVG-11 / CRO-SLO-19

June 4 - 8 2012

Dubrovnik, Croatia

The organizers cordially invite you to the largest vacuum-related meeting in Europe in 2012 - a quadruple JVC-14 / EVC-12 / AMDVG-11 / CroSloVM-19 meeting. The four events are merged together into a single conference, with a unified program and lectures, and one registration for them all. Dubrovnik, a traditional meeting place for the international cooperation offers an excellent and stimulating environment for the conference of high scientific merit which will attract participants from all over Europe. The venue of the conference, a 5 stars hotel Rixos Libertas, provides excellent facilities for the smooth presentation of the conference's scientific content, as well as for the accompanying exhibition of vacuum equipment and pertinent publications. A world-renowned scientists will present plenary lectures, a number of internationally acknowledged researchers will be invited speakers, and much more oral and poster contributions will provide insight into the state-of-the-art of science and technology in the fields powerfully affecting the way how we live and produce. For the scientists, researchers, engineers, teachers and students interested or active in any of the vacuum-related topics, the JVC-14 / EVC-12 / AMDVG-11 / CroSloVM-19 meeting at Dubrovnik is place to be in early June 2012.

JVC-14 (14th Joint Vacuum Conference) is the 14th conference successively organized by the Vacuum Societies of Austria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovakia and Slovenia. This conference series begun as the Hungarian-Austrian Vacuum Conference held in Gyor, Hungary in 1979. Now it is organized biennially in one of the member countries. The JVCs traditionally not only offer a good opportunity to young researchers to increase their international visibility, but provides an environment for all interested scientists to establish collaborations and form a close-knit community in a friendly atmosphere, as well.

EVC-12 (12th European Vacuum Conference) is the 12th of this conference series set up by Prof. J. Colligon with the first one at Salford in 1988. It is organized biennially by one of the European Vacuum Societies on behalf of the IUVSTA (International Union for Vacuum Science, Technique and Applications), and attracts ever more participants from all over Europe.

AMDVG-11 (11th Annual Meeting of the German Vacuum Society/Deutsche Vakuum Gesellschaft) is the 11th national event. The aim of the DVG to foster the cooperation between Vacuum Societies in Europe lead to a number of DVG annual meetings organized jointly with other societies. A former joint JVC-12 / EVC-10 / AMDVG-7 meeting proved to be a very successful precedent for broadening of such cooperation.

CroSloVM-19 (19th Croatian-Slovenian Vacuum Meeting) is annual meeting of the Slovenian Vacuum Society and the Croatian Vacuum Society. It is organized each year in other country and brings together the researchers, engineers and students of neighbouring societies for the exchange of the ideas, discussion of the results and initiation of new cooperations.
